What Are The Ice Keys?

Within 'Ljós Megin' (which means 'radiant light energy) there are exercises known under the umbrella term 'Keys of Yggdrasil' which are the foundation teachings of the system. The Ice Keys are one branch of the Keys of Yggdrasil and the other branch is the Fire Keys which are for advanced practitioners. The Ice Keys should remain part of your daily routine throughout your training right up to Master level, therefore, they can be seen as the backbone of the system.

Describing the Ice Keys in the most simple way possible would be to put them into the category of moving meditations but they are so much more than that. Before we delve deeper into what else the Ice Keys are, let's define what a moving meditation is.

Most of us are aware that meditating is focusing and calming the mind sufficiently to let go of daily stresses and problems to create a state of inner peace and tranquillity. A typical mental image of someone meditating would probably be a person sat in lotus position or kneeling while looking very calm and still. That is an example of static meditation. A moving meditation would have the same goal of creating inner peace and tranquillity but achieving it through slow and precise bodily movements. This is a more preferable technique for those who struggle to focus and concentrate while attempting static meditation. Tai Chi and Chi Kung are examples of moving meditations. The advantage of a moving meditation over a static meditation is that you're working two things at once... stilling the mind and aligning the body.

Although the Ice Keys are a fantasic moving meditation, they were created for the primary goal of building vital energy called Megin (sometimes called chi or prana in other cultures) to improve and maintain health. More of this aspect is covered throughout this article.

What are the movements?

Each movement culminates in the body making a posture which reflects a specific shape which corresponds to one of 24 runes of the Elder Futhark which have been the basis of esoteric knowledge in Northern Europe for millennia and they are performed as a flowing, complete set. As the practitioner moves into each posture they inhale and then exhale as they move back out of the posture. Herein lies the secret to how the Ice Keys align the body in a gentle but profound way, and in particular, the spine... each posture very gently stretches particular muscles but it is the inhalation and expansion of the ribcage that take the stretch to its natural conclusion without overexertion.

What Are The Benefits And Purpose Of The Ice Keys?

Mind

Now we know that a moving meditation can have a calming effect on the mind let's focus specifically on how the Ice Keys can help. Through focused meditation and visualization practices, practitioners engage with the serene energy of the Ice Keys, cultivating a sense of calm amidst the chaos of modern life. As the mind attunes to the gentle rhythms of the Ice Keys, stress and tension begin to dissipate, creating space for clarity of thought and emotional equilibrium. With regular practice, the Ice Keys become effective in managing anxiety, promoting relaxation, and fostering resilience in the face of life's challenges.

Body

When performing the Ice Keys the practitioner is encouraged to use a breathing technique that involves inhaling to maximum capacity followed by exhaling until the lungs are completely empty. This breathing pattern ensures the maximum uptake of oxygen with each breath which increases oxygen delivery to the brain and muscles and therefore improves their functional effectiveness. Deep breaths also stimulate the vagus nerve, which calms the nervous system and reduces stress on the body. This method also encourages detoxification because the movement of the body whilst breathing deeply stimulates the lymphatic system.

As described earlier, deep breathing while putting the body in the postures of the Ice Keys have a gentle stretching effect on the body and help align the spine which results in better posture.

The calming influence of the Ice Keys also have tangible effects on the body, such as lowering blood pressure, reducing muscle tension, and promoting restful sleep.

Spirit

The original, and primary, reason that the Ice Keys were developed was to have a beneficial effect on the energy systems of the body and this is where the magic of the Ice Keys really happens.

Being full of vibrant healing energy as well as having an unhindered flow of that energy is essential to wellbeing. Both the ‘Ice Keys’ and the ‘Fire Keys’ work at maintaining a healthy energy field, removing energetic blocks and open up the practitioner to an unobstructed flow of Megin (Pronounced - May Gin (with a hard G)). If the word Megin is new to you it can be described as your life force or vital energy and also encorporates the aura. Where chi is spoken about in China and prana in India, the traditional word in Northern Europe is Megin and is the term used in Ljós Megin.

As the flow of Megin increases, with regular practice, so does the sensitivity to feeling the Megin. The practitioner will start to feel warmth and energy around the body and not just in it and have a tangible feeling of energy surrounding their hands. When the sensation in the hands happens it means that the practitioner will also be able to feel and perceive the Megin of another person and therefore be able to manipulate any negative energy that shouldn't be there as well as channel Megin into any 'empty' spaces in the aura. This is a significant development because it means that the practitioner has the potential to become an energy healer. It is at this point that guidance is needed in the form of training as a Ljós Megin Healer. This is where Ljós Megin differs from other systems that offer qualifications on completion of a course because progression (and the speed at which one progresses) is soley dictated by the energetic development of the individual.
